About the Book & Author
Hey there, awesome BookDuck readers! Are you ready for an incredible journey with Pi and Richard Parker?
You might think it’s a story about two guys who travel around the world. Yes, Pi is a young Indian boy, but who is then Richard Parker? Can you guess? Believe me, he is none other than a real ferocious Bengal tiger!
But before sailing on the open sea, let’s get acquainted with the author of this fantastic story.
Yann Martel is a Canadian best-selling author who won the Man Booker Prize for fiction for Life of Pi in 2002. Moreover, the book has sold more than ten million copies worldwide!
But wait, that’s not all. In 2012 it was adapted into an adventure-drama film directed by Ang Lee, which won four Oscars at the 85th Academy Awards.
Sounds promising, doesn’t it? Let’s go!
Before starting his story, Mr. Martel shows you the background of the book. What inspired him to write this masterpiece? Well, back in 1996 he took a trip to India. In Pondicherry he met by chance an old man named Francis Adirubasamy at a coffee house. This man told Mr. Martel a story that would make him believe in God. At that time, Mr. Martel was not a very religious man, you know?
Later, in his native country Mr. Martel met the protagonist of the old man’s story, Mr. Patel, who narrated his version of this epic tale.
