Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, essayist, poet, and travel writer. His first taste of true success came in 1883 with the release of Treasure Island. It has since become one of the most often dramatized and adapted novels.
Stevenson has become one of the prominent figures of English literature. In 2018, he was ranked, just behind Charles Dickens, as the 26th most-translated author in the world.
